Career
Gary Carlston graduated from Harvard University in 1973 with a degree in Scandinavian literature. After college, he spent time in Sweden, where he coached a women’s basketball team to a national championship. He later taught Swedish at the University of Washington.
In 1980, Gary Carlston co-founded Broderbund Software in Eugene, Oregon, with his brother Doug Carlston. Initially, the company was created to publish Doug’s game Galactic Empire.
