Description from the packaging.
Arcade galactic prison escape.
In the galactic year 7401 a free-roving private spacer, known as Space Cowboy, landed his vessel on the feudal planet Dungeon. Space Cowboy was looking for adventure; he was not expecting to be arrested on false charges as soon as he landed his ship. Before being incarcerated in the cells of Castle Langour, Space Cowboy did manage to seal his ship so that it would open only to his body aura pattern.
For three years Space Cowboy was a restless prisoner planning an escape to his waiting ship, to lift off and find a more cordial planet. Finally the moment to escape arrived and Space Cowboy broke out of the castle. But there was still the gauntlet ahead of him...
The gauntlet consisted of an elevated ramparted platform, lined with robot lasers and pitfalls and liberally laced with oil slicks, that was the sole path to his ship. It would be a rough run, but he still had his lucky hat and jet-spur boots to help him... and one last swallow of saved whiskey. He reckoned it was about time he got started. He sucked the liquid from the squeeze flask and moved towards the gauntlet.
Space Cowboy is a fast-paced arcade game that uses some of the finest graphic displays yet programmed for the Atari Computer system, as well as using all four voices of the Atari sound synthesizer.
The object of play is to run the 16 sections of the gauntlet to reach your ship by moving along a narrow platformed walkway. In Space Cowboy you will be given the option of playing any one of four skill levels. The following information is displayed on the screen and continually updated: stamina, speed, sections of the gauntlet remaining and score.
Play time: 30 minutes.
